PARKING AT THE SHOW
Parking at the Gawler Show can be an issue at peak times throughout the weekend. Located at the junction of the North and South Para River and surrounded by a heritage area with narrow streets which complicates easy access during this time.
The Town of Gawler has many temporary parking controls in place for Show weekend to ensure local residents are minimally affected during the festivities. These parking restraints are advertised in The Bunyip’s Gawler Show Lift Out prior to the Show and on this page.
The Council has now gravelled an area on Thomas Terrace, thus enabling parking for about 40 cars. Many local community groups use this time to assist the Gawler A, H & F Society and the community by controlling various private parking areas.
Monies raised from parking are redistributed to those groups following the event by way of donation for their assistance.
- Corner Jacob Street and Patterson Terrace
- Henry Chenoweth Reserve, Patterson Terrace, Gawler West
- 3 Lawrence Avenue, Gawler West
Also a Council Reserve on Corner of Lawrence Avenue & Marsh Avenue has been made available for Charity groups to sell parking for the Show.
Both these Lawrence Avenue parking areas give close access via the new footbridge to Gate 1 on Nixon Terrace (near the sideshows).
Council has also given approval for Goose Island to be utilised for parking.
Sporting organisations also offer paid parking opportunities in close proximity to the grounds, namely the Gawler Bowling Club and the Gawler Tennis Club.
This enables a great fundraising opportunity for those organisations and helps to provide much needed relief to a heavily trafficked area.
- St George’s Anglican Church, Cowan Street, Gawler
The construction of the Tapa Pariara River Cycling/Walking path will benefit many Show attendees, now connecting Gawler West to the Nixon Terrace showgrounds by way of a footbridge most closely associated with the southern end of the Show and Side Show Alley.
This new access will provide a larger area for those to consider parking in the wider street off Lawrence Avenue and around 14th Street.
Please refer to local signage on display over show weekend to highlight parking areas.
Please pay careful attention to the parking regulations while at the Gawler Show. It is our intention that you enjoy a family friendly day that does not include an infringement notice to greet you when you return to your vehicle.
As Gawler’s largest event on the annual calendar, it is also regularly attended by both SA Police and Town of Gawler Parking Inspectors.
